Angelina Jolie mag een taak toevoegen, aan d'r immer groeiende en best wel indrukwekkende cv. De Oscar-winnende actrice, regisseur en Goodwill Ambassadeur van de VN, is aangewezen als gasthoogleraar aan de London School of Economics.
Ze vergezelt de voormalig minister van Buitenlandse Zaken William Hague als gastdocent voor een masteropleiding van het Centre for Women, Peace and Security, dat onderdeel is van de universiteit en de twee vorig jaar openden. Het tweetal werkte al eens samen voor een vierdaagse top in Londen in 2014, over seksueel geweld ten tijde van oorlog en hoe dat te beëindigen.
'I am very encouraged by the creation of this masters programme,' zei Jolie. 'I hope other academic institutions will follow this example, as it is vital that we broaden the discussion on how to advance women's rights and end impunity for crimes that disproportionately affect women, such as sexual violence in conflict. I am looking forward to teaching and to learning from the students as well as to sharing my own experiences of working alongside governments and the United Nations.'
'This course will help underpin our work in preventing sexual violence in conflict, developing expertise and research to assist us in tackling the culture of impunity,' voegde Hague daaraan toe. 'I look forward to working with the LSE students and my fellow visiting professors.'
