Candace Bushnell, ofwel: de schrijfster van Sex and the City, ofwel: de échte Carrie Bradshaw, werd laatst door Cosmopolitan benaderd en uitgedaagd eens een poging te wagen op Tinder, en daar dan over te schrijven. Of eigenlijk was-ie andersom: of Candace wilde schrijven over Tinder. En, wist team Cosmo natuurlijk dondersgoed, om een beetje een smeuïg verhaal op te kunnen tekenen, moet je wat participerende journalistiek toepassen - en dus een Tinder-poging wagen. Slimmeriken.
De schrijfster dacht aanvankelijk: I don't think so. Ze had het onderwerp daten al sinds 1996 ongemoeid gelaten, op papier dan hè, en twintig jaar na dato heeft ze al sinds 2002 geen date meer gehad - toen ze de man ontmoette die nu haar ex-man is...
Afijn. Legitieme redenen om Cosmopolitans aanbod vriendelijk af te slaan. Maar dat deed ze niet. Ze heeft 'm uiteindelijk toch gewaagd, die poging. En dat begon zo:

This didn't seem like a possibility, considering Tinder's bad rap: Tinder was just for hookups, the guys were horrible, they sent dick pics, they never looked like their photos, they lied about everything, they'd hook up and never text again, they would meet up with a woman and spend the whole time on their phone looking for other hookups, they stiffed women on drinks, and on and on and on it went, ending with: The guys only want blow jobs.
Meaning: The woman and the man meet up. The woman gives the man a blow job and then leaves? And never sees or hears from the guy again?
And that is called dating?
That cannot be right. Yes, it had been a long time since I'd been on an actual date, but I thought I could count on one thing: The technology changes, but people are still people. They still want to fall in love. They still want to have babies. And some of them still want to get married — heck, look at The Bachelor!
