Een Midnightje in Paris, anyone?

Ooit gedroomd om net als je favoriete filmsterren in prachtige suites te slapen en te zwemmen in privézwembaden? Nou, dat kan dus. Want de meeste films zijn opgenomen in hotels die daadwerkelijk bestaan en vaak door de jaren heen het interieur hetzelfde hebben gehouden - als een ode aan de films die er zijn opgenomen. En wat is leuker dan tijdens het Oscarweekend te slapen in één van je favoriete filmdecors? Wij tippen de leukste!

Lost in Translation (2003)

<p>Bill Murray's character, Bob Harris, meets Charlotte, played by Scarlett Johansson, at <a href="http://tokyo.park.hyatt.com/en/hotel/home.html">The Park Hyatt Tokyo</a> in this Sofia Coppola film. During the filming, which took place over the course of 27 days in 2002, one suite was used for the setting of both characters' rooms: Charlotte's room was the bedroom, while Bob's was actually the room's seating area. The hotel's Peak Lounge and <a href="http://tokyo.park.hyatt.com/en/hotel/dining/ThePeakBar.html">Bar</a>, <a href="http://tokyo.park.hyatt.com/en/hotel/activities/hotel-activities/spa.html">Club on the Park</a> spa and gym, main entrance and banquet rooms were also used in the filming.</p>

Het karakter van Bill Murray, Bob Harris, ontmoet de immer charmante Charlotte, gespeeld door Scarlett Johansson, in het stijlvolle The Park Hyatt Tokyo in deze Sofia Coppola film. En of er gretig gebruik werd gemaakt van het prachtige interieur van dit hotel. Zo deden de suites dienst als de kamers van zowel Charlotte als Bob en zagen we de twee regelmatig ronddartelen in de bar, de club, de spa en de gym van het hotel.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2011)

<p>The David Fincher directed adaptation of Steig Larson's famed novel features <a href="https://www.thedoldergrand.com/en.html">The Dolder Grand</a> in setting and by name with a mention in the script as a receptionist welcomes Rooney Mara's character, Lisbeth Salander, to the hotel upon arrival. Aside from the driveway, exterior and reception area, the film also included a scene in the <a href="https://www.thedoldergrand.com/en/rooms/top-suites/masina.html">Masina suite</a>.</p>

De reuzespannende film waarin we Lisbeth Salander volgen in haar strijd om rechtvaardigheid speelt zich deels af in het prachtige The Dolder Grand in Zwitserland. We zien Rooney Mara - die de rolvan Lisbeth vertolkt - zich aanmelden bij de receptie en ook de Masina suite speelt een klein rolletje in de film.

The Return of the Pink Panther (1975)

<p>Filmed at <a href="http://www.palace.ch/">Gstaad Palace</a> 40 years ago, the film starring Peter Sellers pictured the property's <a href="http://www.palace.ch/rooms-suites/suites/penthouse-suite/?L=msfliqfmueax%273e51">penthouse suite</a>, spa and lobby. Today, all the original elements and suites shot for the film still remain, and the hotel is celebrating its anniversary year with a Pink Panther themed cocktail list. </p>

Veertig jaar geleden werd deze film opgenomen in het prachtige Gstaad Palace, dat is gelegen in een sprookjesachtig landschap met witte bergtoppen en oeroude dennen. Leuk weetje: veertig jaar na dato zijn alle originele elementen nog in de suite aanwezig. Het jubileum wordt dan ook feestelijk gevierd met een speciale Pink Panther cocktail kaart.

The Devil Wears Prada (2006)

<p>Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly challenges Anne Hathaway's Andrea Sachs to track down the unpublished manuscript of an upcoming <em>Harry Potter</em> series book for her twin daughters in one of fashion's favorite films. Knowing that if she can't track down the impossible-to-find book she "should not even bother coming back," Andrea taps charming writer Christian Thompson for a favor and heads to <a href="http://www.starwoodhotels.com/stregis/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=81&language=en_US">The St. Regis New York</a>'s <a href="http://www.starwoodhotels.com/stregis/property/dining/index.html?propertyID=81">King Cole Bar</a> for the hand-off. Aside from being one of fashion's cheekiest film moments, this bar also is believed to be the originator of the Bloody Mary and is still a New York City staple for after work drinks and one of the best versions of the brunch cocktail.<br></p>

Wie herinnert zich niet die scène uit The Devil Wears Prada waarin Miranda Priestly haar assistente Andrea Sachs de loodzware taak geeft het allernieuwste Harry Potter manuscript op te sporen voor haar tweelingdochters? Gestrest gaat Anne Hathaway - die de rol van Andrea vertolkt - op pad, wetende dat ze zonder het manuscript niet hoeft terug te komen. Gelukkig is daar de charmante schrijver Christian Thompson die heus het een en ander voor haar wil regelen. De deal wordt gesloten in The St. Regis New York's King Cole Bar in New York. Dit is natuurlijk al reden genoeg om een bezoekje te brengen aan het hotel, maar wist je dat het hotel ook bekend staat om z'n killer Bloody Mary recept (hij schijnt hier vandaan te komen)?

Somewhere (2010)

<p>This Sofia Coppola film featured numerous scenes in the <a href="https://www.dorchestercollection.com/en/milan/hotel-principe-di-savoia/">Hotel Principe di Savoia</a> in Milan, focusing mainly on it's <a href="https://www.dorchestercollection.com/en/milan/hotel-principe-di-savoia/suites-rooms/">Presidential Suite</a>, pictured here. In one scene, Stephen Dorff's character, Johnny Marco, jumps into the room's private swimming pool with his daughter Cleo, played by Elle Fanning.</p>

Een interieur verfijnder en spannender dan dat in het Hotel Principe di Savoia in Milaan ga je het niet snel krijgen. Geen wonder dus dat Sofia Coppola de Presidential Suite in dit hotel koos voor haar film Somewhere. Wanneer je pootjebaadt aan de rand van het zwembad, denk dan even aan die scène met Stephen Dorff als Johnny die met zijn dochter Cleo (Elle Fanning) een duik neemt in hetzelfde zwembad.

Midnight in Paris (2011)

<p>In this Woody Allen film, Owen Wilson's character dips back in time every night at midnight while on a trip to Paris with his fiancé, played by Rachel McAdams. The two stay at <a href="https://www.dorchestercollection.com/en/paris/le-meurice/">Le Meurice</a> during their stay, and a wine tasting scene was shot in the hotel's <a href="https://www.dorchestercollection.com/en/paris/le-meurice/suites-rooms/">Belle Etoile Suite</a>.</p>

In deze Woody Allen film zien we Owen Wilson iedere nacht het Le Meurice uitglippen om terug te keren naar het Parijs van de jaren 20. Ook leuk: de wijnproeverij in de film werd opgenomen in de Belle Etoile Suite van het hotel.

Entourage (2015)

<p>This film revival of the acclaimed HBO series best known for featuring tourist attractions, hidden gems and hot spots in and around Los Angeles had Vince, Eric, Johnny Drama and Turtle frequenting <a href="https://www.montagehotels.com/beverlyhills/">Montage Beverly Hills</a> throughout the film.</p>

Deze film - een remake van de HBO-serie - staat bekend om alle toeristische attracties, verborgen plekjes en hot spots die je als kijker voorbij ziet komen. Eén daarvan is het Montage Beverly Hills hotel waar Vince, Eric, Johnny Drama en Turtle regelmatig vertoeven.

Something's Gotta Give (2003)... en Sex and The City (2004)

<p>This Nancy Meyers film starring Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson featured the <a href="https://www.dorchestercollection.com/en/paris/hotel-plaza-athenee/">Hotel Plaza Athénée</a> in Paris' 8th arrondissement, but the hotel also had cameos in the <em>Devil Wears Prada</em> (naturally, Miranda Priestly would stay nowhere else). The final two episodes of<em> Sex and the City </em>included scenes shot here as well, like the famous fashion scene where Carrie lies in bed donning an Atelier Versace gown crafted from layers and layers of tulle.</p>

Deze Nancy Meyers film - waarin Diane Keaton en Jack Nicholson de hoofdrollen vertolkten - speelt zich af in het Hotel Plaza Athénée in het 8e arrondissement van Parijs. Maar ook in the Devil Wears Prada - only the best voor Miranda Priestly - zagen we het hotel voorbij komen. En dan hebben we het nog niet gehad over die iconische laatste afleveringen van Sex and the City die zich afspeelden in Parijs waarin Carrie in haar gigantische Atelier Versace jurk op bed in het hotel ligt.

The Descendants (2011)

<p>Alexander Payne directed George Clooney and Shailene Woodley in her breakout role for this tale of a father struggling to connect with his daughters in the wake of tragedy and family dysfunction. Based in Hawaii, scenes from the film were shot at the <a href="http://www.stregisprinceville.com/">St. Regis Princeville</a>, which was an actual location in the original plot of the book the film was adapted from, written by Kaui Hart Hemmings.</p>

In deze film, die werd geregisseerd door Alexander Payne, zien we George Clooney en Shailene Woodley in het verhaal van een vader die krampachtig probeert een band op te bouwen met zijn dochters. Dit alles speelt zich af in Hawaii in het St. Regis Princeville. Leuk: het hotel werd al genoemd in het boek waar de film op is gebaseerd is! .

Magic In The Moonlight (2014)

<p>Nestled in the heart of the French Riviera, <a href="http://www.bellesrives.com/en/index.html">Hotel Belles Rives</a>, was home to F. Scott Fitzgerald in the late 20's, where he wrote <em>Tender is the Night</em> and found inspiration for some key moments in <em>The Great Gatsby</em> (the hotel has a green light at it's entrance). Woody Allen also filmed <em>Magic in the Moonlight</em> in their <a href="http://www.bellesrives.com/en/piano-bar-fitzgerald-10.html">Bar Fitzgerald</a>. The hotel's main dining room, Le Passagére, which was recently rewarded one 2016 Michelin star, with their Executive Chef Yoric Tièche‬ and Pastry Chef Steve Moracchini‬ both receiving 2016 Gault & Millau Awards for Best Chef of Tomorrow and Best Pastry Chef.</p>

Denk de Franse Rivièra, F. Scott Fitzgerald die met het prachtige uitzicht op de achtergrond zijn Tender is the Night schreef én inspiratie vond voor The Great Gatsby en je denkt aan het Hotel Belles Rives. In datzelfde hotel filmde Woody Allen later zijn Magic in the Moonlight in de bar vernoemd naar de grote schrijver.
