Vannacht won Ryan Gosling een Golden Globe voor zijn rol in La La Land. Toen de acteur het podium opkom om de award in ontvangst te nemen, maakte hij eerst een grap over hoe hij altijd werd aangezien voor Ryan Reynolds (die genomineerd was in dezelfde categorie), waarna hij zijn vrouw Eva Mendes bedankte:
'My lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second, and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer. If she hadn't have taken all that on so that I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me today. So sweetheart, thank you.'
Daarna droeg hij de prijs op aan Eva Mendes' broer, Juan Carlos Mendez, die vorig jaar tragisch overleed aan keelkanker.
