Een geslaagd zakenvrouw mogen we Leandra Medine wel noemen. De 27-jarige influencer startte in 2010 Man Repeller, een blog waar ze haar komische kijk op mode aan de wereld kenbaar maakte. Een supersuccesvol concept, gezien het feit dat Medine vandaag de dag een flink aantal man in dienst heeft om haar website draaiende te houden.
Als we dus iets van haar willen weten, dan is het wel hoe ze dat nou helemaal doet, zo'n succesvolle onderneming op poten zetten, en dat zo jong. Wat zou ze adviseren aan vrouwen die erover denken hetzelfde pad te bewandelen? Dit:
'The number one thing I would say to someone who wants to start a business is if you really can't sleep at night and smack the passion out of yourself then go for it, but if you can live a happy life working for someone else, do that,' aldus Medine.
Waar de gevierdste zakenvrouwen niet kunnen ophouden met vertellen hoe geweldig het wel niet is succesvol te zijn, vindt Medine er het hare van:
'Running a business is incredibly hard, especially as a creative person because you're extricated from the creative very quickly and that is really hard. Obviously I have experienced that first hand. I credit a lot of my issues with fertility to the stress that my body has had to overcome,' aldus Medine. 'But I'm one of those people who couldn't beat it out of me, I always wanted to make.'
Medine en dier hubby proberen al tijden om zwanger te worden, tot nu toe helaas zonder succes. De oorzaak blijkt een vruchtbaarheidsprobleem, iets wat Medine niet onder stoelen of banken steekt. Op haar website schreef ze onlangs nog een aangrijpend stuk over de situatie waar zij en haar man zich op dit moment in bevinden en ook in deze podcast deed een emotionele Medine openhartig haar verhaal.
'But the advice that I would give to someone is that you have to be very, very in touch with who you are as an individual. You have to make sure that your personal goals align with the goals you are setting for yourself in your business and you have to be compassionate. Respect yourself, respect your boundaries, don't think you can do it all. Compassion is a character trait that I think a lot of women lack for themselves,' vertelt Medine aan ELLE.
En daar kunnen we het alleen maar roerend mee eens zijn.
