Vindt ook T Magazine, het stijlschrift van The New York Times dat een groot stuk plaatste van de ontwerper.
Het tijdschrift bracht afgelopen februari een bezoek aan Van Herpen en haar Amsterdamse studio en was onder de indruk, getuige ook het intro van het stuk: 'At
a time when Silicon Valley is trying (and failing) to be fashionable,
the Dutch designer is taking a different route — borrowing the
discoveries of scientists, architects and even the military to create
artistic pieces of great beauty.' En zo is het.

Per beeldscherm (er is een filmpje bij) stappen we Van Herpens Amsterdamse studio in, daar waar mode en technologie wél een goed huwelijk hebben en waar de ontwerper ons langs haar Hacking Infinity en op stapel staande collectie gidst. Hacking Infinity heeft ze afgelopen Paris Fashion Week in Palais de Tokyo getoond, met succes. T Magazine waardeert de ontwerpen met: 'Parade of beautiful extraterrestrials.'

Maar, laat Van Herpen weten: 'For me, technology is not an inspiration and it's not a goal, it's just a tool.' Ze legt uit dat er heus een boel potentie zit in draagbare technologie, maar dat ze in plaats van multitaskende kleren ('Jackets that make phone calls! socks that can tell the time!') liever focust op de ontwikkeling van innovatieve stoffen. 'I think the biggest potential is in materials. I
really think materials can revolutionize fashion in the future.
Personally, I'm not interested in having a lot of technology on my body,
so it will have to be embedded very cleverly,' vertelt ze aan het tijdschrift.
Aardigheid: de interviewer vindt dat Van Herpens zangerige Engels klinkt als 'Glinda the Good Witch after two semesters of art school.'
Studiokat Spin komt ook aan bod: 'The intermittent appearance of a cat named Spin (Dutch for "Spider").'
En Westerpark: 'Van
Herpen's atelier is located in Westerpark, a recently gentrified
neighborhood in central Amsterdam that, with its saline air and oxidized
maritime vessels, feels a lot like Red Hook, Brooklyn.'
